CONCEPT
To celebrate the renewal of SHISEIDO Ultimune™, an event was held under the theme “The Fusion of Art and Science.” monopo created both a teaser video and a highlight film capturing the event itself.
Spanning two days, the event required art direction that could express the brand’s philosophy and unique worldview.
For the teaser video, we restructured existing brand assets from scratch. By boldly rearranging the composition and designing an entirely new soundscape, we avoided directly showcasing the product—creating a mysterious yet impactful visual experience.
VIDEOS
Filming took place over two days—Day One at the SHISEIDO Global Innovation Center, and Day Two at Warehouse TERRADA. To authentically reflect the distinct atmosphere of each location, we developed a detailed storyboard in advance.
However, because many key elements of the event were disclosed at the last minute, a number of creative decisions had to be made on the fly. The pre-designed storyboard, meticulously crafted by the art director, served as a crucial guide, allowing the team to stay both agile and precise throughout the shoot.
Although filming occurred during live event hours with guests present, the video was carefully structured to highlight one influencer at a time. This approach helped create an immersive, distraction-free viewing experience. By thoughtfully integrating the exhibition’s lighting and video installations into each shot, we conveyed the brand’s worldview in an abstract, visually poetic style. We also deliberately avoided conventional product shots—like close-ups of the bottle—opting instead for a “showing by not showing” approach that prioritized atmosphere and emotional resonance over direct representation.
TEAM
The goal of this video production extended beyond simply documenting the event—it was to visually express the theme of “The Fusion of Art and Science.” At monopo, we began by closely studying SHISEIDO’s brand guidelines, then assembled a lean, highly skilled team to maximize creative output while minimizing crew size. This streamlined approach was essential, given the venue’s limited space and the orchestrated flow of attendees within the rooms.
Thanks to the expertise and adaptability of our team, we were able to maintain exceptional production quality while staying agile throughout the shoot. In close collaboration with SHISEIDO’s global team, all communication was conducted in English, ensuring a smooth, efficient workflow from initial brief to final delivery.
This launch event was more than a showcase—it was a chance to share Shiseido’s continued history and fresh approach to creatively communicating Art and Science. Capturing its atmosphere, energy, and aesthetic beauty through video posed a unique challenge, but one that we embraced fully.
